Publish Codex-authored content to Office Open XML
Codex update enables export to popular word processing format
January 10, 2012 - TORONTO, Canada
Codex Systems today announced the release of Version 1.5 of Codex®, the groundbreaking editor that enables anyone to author XML-based DITA content easily and affordably. The update, available free to existing customers, enables Codex-authored DITA content to be published to Office Open XML format documents for distribution to content consumers, or for conversion to other formats using Microsoft® Word or other compatible word processor.

"Although third-party publishing tools can easily convert DITA content to PDF format, customizing the appearance of output PDFs is incredibly complex," explained Adam Kozyniak, co-founder of Codex Systems. "But now publishing from Codex to PDF is as easy as authoring in Codex."
Unlike most DITA publishing tools, Codex converts DITA content to the Office Open XML format, the native file format of Microsoft Word, by formatting all content using styles from a user-defined template. "Modifying the default style template within Microsoft Word is much easier than tweaking XSLT," continued Kozyniak. Microsoft Word, or other compatible word processor, can then be used to export the document to PDF, HTML, or any other available format. Office Open XML documents can even be provided directly to content consumers.
"With the addition of publishing," added Kozyniak, "Codex now represents a simple, inexpensive, and complete solution for authoring documents efficiently."
Pricing and Availability
Codex single-user licenses are available now for $99 US per year, and include free updates during the license term. A free trial version of Codex is also available. Codex runs on most Windows and Mac systems, with support for other platforms coming soon.
