Announcing Codex 1.4

Images and tables featured in next update of Codex

October 25, 2011 - TORONTO, Canada

The latest update of Codex is coming soon! Codex 1.4 will include support for images and tables, as well as an exciting new feature that will improve collaboration between Subject Matter Experts and Technical Writers. Organizations that need a simple and inexpensive solution for authoring basic DITA content will have even more reasons to choose Codex.

Images

Insert images into topics. Images in GIF, JPG, and PNG format are displayed directly within the topic during editing. For all other image formats, a placeholder image is displayed within the topic during editing.

Tables

Insert basic tables into topics using Codex's new Table Editor. Easily enter plain text into table headings and cells. A future version of Codex will allow styled/tagged text within table cells.

Roundtripping Elements and Attributes

Open any generic DITA topic in Codex for editing. Previously, you could only open topics containing DITA elements and attributes supported by Codex. Now, unsupported DITA elements are displayed in red and are not editable in Codex. When you save the topic, unsupported elements and attributes are saved back to the topic file unchanged. This exciting new feature is the first step toward allowing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Technical Writers to seamlessly collaborate on the same topics using both Codex and other DITA editors. A future version of Codex will allow the editing of text content contained within unsupported DITA elements.
